Rim & Return Shop Sign Letters
3D illuminated & Non-illuminated Shop Letters
A unique and hugely popular type of 3D shop signage is sweeping the nation and it’s called Rim & Return. These built up 3D letters are made by fabricating / welding together flat pieces of steel to create a box shape three dimensional letter which can be painted to your desired colour or left plain in either a brushed or polished stainless steel finish.
The face of the letter or logo is laser cut and removed from the letter and a range of coloured acrylic inserts are fixed into position so that the internally mounted LED lights illuminate the face of the letters or shape of the logo. These letters are also available as non-illuminated

A new style of signageMade typically from commercial quality 304 grade steel, the 3D letters are bespoke and made to order to whichever font or size you need. A flat sheet of steel is laser-cut to the shape and size of the logo or font. In order to create the depth of the letter a return strip of steel is welded onto the side of the letter which makes it look solid and three-dimensional. The letters can either be left plain or powder-coated / painted in the specific RAL colour of your choice and then fitted to a shop fascia, office wall or sign in a number of fixing methods such as:
These type of letters are ideal for both internal or external use and can be fitted to a shop fascia, brick wall or internal office wall. Rim & Return letters are often produced in following thicknesses however if you require an alternative thickness then please speak to a member of our sales team:
Choosing your RAL Colour Paint finishThe custom made letters are available in a whole range of RAL colours and finishes. Once the letters are cut to size, they're cleaned and primed before being painted / powder coated. Powder coating is a type of painted coating that is applied as a dry powder. The main difference between a typical liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a "skin" surface finish in whichever colour you desire. When choosing your desired colour, it's advised to pick the RAL colour reference from a physical RAL colour chart book so you can get a true indication on how the colour looks. When you view colour references online, they can differ slightly depending on your screen resolution. Choices of AcrylicThere's a vast range of Perspex Acrylic coloured plastics available for the acrylic inserts which make up the face of the built up letters. If a specific colour is needed then it's likely that we're able to get a close match using an existing coloured acrylic from the Perspex range. If we're unable to get a close match then the acrylic can be wrapped in vinyl to achieve a particular pantone or RAL colour. We're also able to digitally print a high resolution image or pattern onto vinyl which is applied to the acrylic face which is a fun and exciting way of creating something completely unique. |
Alternative 3D Letters
A lot of the requests we get asked to produce are for metal shop sign letters which are long lasting and affordable. Like most materials, stainless steel is available in a number of thicknesses and finishes. Machined in the same way as aluminium composite letters, the shop sign letters or logos are cut from a single flat sheet of Stainless Steel using a CNC router which has a large cutting bed which allows for extra-large letters and logos to me machined as one single piece. The letters or logos can then be painted to your desired colours or left plain.
